First grade students learn to ask questions about the world and build on their knowledge of cycles and patterns in nature. Students observe and record information about the natural world as they develop an understanding of patterns in the weather and in the appearance of objects in the sky.
Students learn about the Earth’s surface and resources by examining soil, looking at natural sources of water, and building an understanding of how natural resources can be used.
Students build on their understanding of natural cycles to learn about weather information and develop insight into the characteristics of the seasons and of the day and night. They also learn about objects in the sky including the Sun and other stars, the Moon, and clouds.
